HKU joins Beijing for the live-broadcast release of the "2024 New Quality Productivity Technologies for the Next Generation of Information Engineering Science and Technology" report

The Information and Electronics Engineering Division of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), in conjunction with the China Information and Electronics Engineering Science and Technology Development Strategy Research Center, released the "2024 New Quality Productivity Technologies for the Next Generation of Information Engineering Science and Technology" (“2024 List”) on September 27 simultaneously in Beijing and Hong Kong. The press conference in Hong Kong, which was broadcast live, simultaneously with Beijing, was held at HKU and attended by over a hundred academics and students.

The press conference was hosted by Academician Lu Yueguang of Information and Electronics Engineering Division of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. Academician Wu Jianping, Director of Zhong Guan Cun Laboratory, delivered a speech, and Fei Aiguo, Director of the CAE Information and Electronics Engineering Division, announced the "2024 New Quality Productivity Technologies for the Next Generation of Information Engineering Science and Technology" whereas Yu Shaohua introduced the progress made in research. Professor Max Shen, Vice-President and Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research) of HKU, delivered a speech on behalf of the University.

Academician Wu Jianping said: “Among the dynamic attributes of cyberspace security, the security of new technologies is one of the main factors that lead to the dynamic characteristics of cyberspace security. This conference will focus on the new opportunities and challenges brought by artificial intelligence to cyberspace security, focus on the major goals and missions in the field of national cyberspace security, in-depth discussion of the security issues brought by artificial intelligence and large models, and carry out strategic, forward-looking research on major basic scientific issues and key technologies, and contribute to ensuring national cyberspace security.”

Mr Fei Aiguo said  the 2024 List provides 163 technologies in five areas, including “Common Foundation”, “Acquisition”, “Perception and Interaction”, "Computation, Control and Intelligence", "Network, Communication and Security", and "Application Systems" to provide useful references for scientific and technological innovation.

Professor Shen represented HKU in the consultation work on the 2024 List . In his speech, Professor Shen stated:"This event is of great significance for tracking the global direction of scientific and technological development, grasping the development trend of electronic information fields, and carrying out scientific and technological innovation. The University of Hong Kong has been actively participating in the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Science and Technology Innovation Platform, focusing on the development of new quality productivity with science and technology innovation as the theme, and intensifying efforts in the development of life health technology, artificial intelligence, etc. We will continue to play a crucial role as a super connector, fully leverage our role as a bridge connecting the mainland and the international community, and strengthen exchanges and cooperation with the mainland and the global community in scientific and technological innovation, industrial transformation, and talent development."
