On September 8, 2023, Professor Gao Song, President of Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU), held an online meeting with the University of Hong Kong (HKU). Prof, Max Shen, Vice President (Research) of HKU welcomed the delegation. More than 30 representatives from various collaborative disciplines of both universities attended the meeting and exchanged ideas on promoting in-depth and high-quality collaboration. 

Professor Shen highlighted the long-standing friendship between SYSU and HKU, characterized by close ties between teachers and students. He mentioned that the two universities are geographically close and have collaborated and innovated across many academic fields based on their complementary strengths. Looking ahead, he expressed the hope that both institutions would strengthen cooperation, utilize the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao University Alliance platform and work together to explore cutting-edge interdisciplinary fields and educate professional talents for mutual development.

Representatives responsible for various cooperation areas from both universities also reported on the progress and planning of their collaborations, covering fields such as biomedicine, law, chemistry, atmospheric science, geography and planning, nursing, dentistry, basic medicine, computer science, materials science, and postgraduate education. Both parties engaged in in-depth discussions on innovative talent joint training models, conducting collaborative research projects, and building a research innovation platform, and reached agreements.

HKU looks forward to expanding the cooperation with the institutions from the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao alliance, strengthening alliance construction, and promoting collaborative development.
